Emergency Support Team (EST) responds to all EMS calls directed to the Washington University dispatch and provides large event stand-by coverage. It is staffed entirely by undergraduate students at WashU, who serve as volunteer EMT-Bs alongside their regular college work. In a given year, there are approximately 55-60 active EMTs.

In my four years, I worked for 2800+ hours on-duty, with 2100+ hours as a senior EMT. Senior medics (designated M1 or M2) are promoted after having passed a series of about 60-70 “mock calls”, or practical exams with simulated patients. Seniors run the calls and coordinate resources on scene. Each night, on duty seniors test juniors (M3) with mock calls.

Internal training of 1st years. Coordinated with St. Louis Community College for EMT-B class. Wrote The Move-Up Guide – Standard Operating Protocols for an EMT-B” e-book
